What are the deadlines and fees for submission?
The SDSFF accepts films until March 15, 2013. Features: $50 Shorts: $25
FINAL HD FILES FOR PROJECTION MUST be received by April 8, 2013. THE
SAN DIEGO SURF FILM FESTIVAL WILL BE HELD MAY 8-12, 2013.
Can I show my mom’s 1978 Super8s of our family beach vacation?
All films must be completed after January 1, 2010.
What formats will you accept for previewing?
Due to the remote nature of our screening panel our method of
submission is a password protected Vimeo link. If your film is
selected for the festival you will need to provide two (2) DVDs no
later then April 8, 2013.
What if I don't have my film on Vimeo?
As a filmmaker, you need to have you films online. This is the
preferred method utilized by film festivals.
How can I get a fee-waiver?
Unfortunately, there are no fee-waivers.
Does my music have to be cleared?
YES. All music must be cleared to be in the festival.
What formats will you accept for exhibition?
HD digital files. DVDs for back-up.
What running time do you consider a feature film or short film?
Films with a total running time over 20 minutes are considered feature
films. Films 20 minutes or less are considered short films.
Do you accept works in progress and rough cuts?
No, all films must be completed when submitted.
What should I include with my submission?
A completed submission form.
What kinds of films do you accept?
We accept all films that celebrate the art of wave riding.
Are there any films the festival will not accept?
We will not accept music videos, commercials, PSAs, or promotional films.
Will the DVDs be returned once decisions are made?
No, we are unable to return DVDs. Please do not send master copies.
Does your festival offer awards?
Yes, amazing awards.
When will decisions be made?
All Filmmakers will be notified via e-mail about final decisions no
later than March 25, 2013. If no e-mail address is provided, no
notification will be sent. We are not responsible for incorrect or
nonworking e-mail addresses.
Does SDSFF have any premiere policies?
No.
Can I submit multiple films?
Yes. Each film must have its own separate screener and fee.
How will I know my film arrived at your office?
We will notify all filmmakers via e-mail once their film has arrived
and been processed. For this reason, an e-mail address is REQUIRED
with your submission.
What is your review process?
All of the films will be viewed by an independent screening panel of
trusted surf cinema lovers and professionals. Each film is viewed a
minimum of two times before the panel makes their final decision.
SDSFF will notify filmmakers accordingly. All decisions are final.
